Ok, this question isn’t as simple as it sounds. The answer depends upon a number of factors, so ultimately the answer has to be Yes and No. Don’t despair! I will explain why now.
Yes, breakfast smoothies are good for weight loss if consumed as part of a calorie controlled healthy balanced diet. One hot tip of mine is to include some green vegetables with each smoothie i.e. spinach or kale, if you want to make your breakfast smoothie extra healthy. Many people are not a fan of eating their greens, so including a portion of green vegetables within your daily smoothie is a great way to ensure you don’t miss out on the nutritional benefits they have to offer.
On the flip side, breakfast smoothies are often not great for weight loss because so many people make one crucial mistake. That is, they consume a large glass of healthy smoothie alongside their breakfast. What’s wrong with this exactly?
Well, firstly the smoothies should be limited to just 150ml.
Secondly, if you are trying to lose weight then the smoothie must be drunk as a meal replacement, not in addition to a healthy breakfast meal. If you regularly eat your breakfast with a smoothie too, you are actually consuming far more calories than you realise. If you don’t burn these additional calories off, they turn to fat.
