The frozen berry smoothie can be extremely nutritious, and healthy. It’s a quick and easy breakfast idea. It takes just a few minutes to whip up in the blender, creating an almost instant tasty morning treat for your family. It also gives your body the vitamins and mineral boost (vitamin C, folate and potassium) it needs to kick start your metabolism, at the start of the day.

If you have picky eaters like I do, smoothies are your lifesaver! I’m not kidding! Why? Because they are so quick to blitz up. So, if you see your kid starting to push away yet another healthy dinner, why not blitz up our red berry smoothie in 5 minutes flat. Bingo! You’ve now have a kid getting some good vitamins and minerals into them.

Our smoothie recipe is a great healthy choice, because natural yoghurt is packed full of protein. Make sure you get plenty of protein within your weekly meal plans, as protein is proven to help you feel fuller for longer. Aim to eat a palm sized portion of protein, at every meal time.

Don’t be fooled into thinking that non stop smoothie drinking is a healthy decision, because it’s not! That may feel like a contradiction to what I just said above, but it really isn’t. Let me explain…

Whole fruits contain natural sugars, otherwise known as fructose. Whilst natural sugars are a more healthy option than refined sugars, you should still keep an eye on how much you are consuming.

According to Pritikin’s website, scientists have found that “calories in liquid form have less satiety than calories in solid form“. This means that you will not feel as full if you drink 150 calories of smoothie, compared to if you ate 150 calories of solid whole fruit. If you don’t feel satiety (feelings of fullness) after drinking your smoothie, you are likely to eat more calories to achieve a feeling of fullness. Rather than losing weight, you may actually gain weight!

Yes, you absolutely can!

Smoothies are a great way to get fruit into your diet, if you aren’t a fan of eating whole fruits. Frozen fruit is packed full of super healthy vitamins and minerals.

You might be thinking that fruit loses its goodness when frozen. This isn’t the case, because farmers pick the fruit when it is most ripe. They wash, cut and freeze the fruit within hours of it being picked. This ensures frozen fruit retains its nutrients.

In reality, frozen fruit may have more vitamin C in it than fresh fruit, because fresh fruit often sits at home on the side for a couple of days, before being eaten. Whereas, Vitamin C is locked into frozen fruit within hours of being picked.

Frozen fruit is also perfectly suited to smoothies, because it gives your frozen berry smoothie an icy thick texture to the enjoy.

And let’s not forget … frozen bags of fruit are also far more convenient, and easy. You don’t have to ensure you always have ripened fresh fruit in stock.

In a rush? Blitz up this super simple frozen berry smoothie in a few minutes! Tasty mixed fruit smoothie recipe.

Prep Time 1 minute
Cook Time 4 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes


  • 345g - Frozen Summer Fruit Mix
  • 250ml - 0% Fat Natural Yoghurt
  • 200ml - Semi-Skimmed Fat Milk
  • 4 - Ice Cubes (optional)


Meal Preparation

  1. Grab your fruit mix from the freezer.
  2. Measure out your milk, in a pyrex jug

Cooking Instructions

  1. Empty fruit mix into Nutribullet blender (or equivalent machine)
  2. Put milk and ice cubes in blender.
  3. Measure out natural yoghurt, then add to blender.
  4. Blitz all the ingredients.
  5. Sieve blended fruit into a saucepan.
  6. Clean your sieve.
  7. Sieve smoothie again, to capture remaining fruit seeds. Gently push smoothie through the sieve.
  8. Serve and Enjoy!


Sieving smoothie for a second time, is only necessary if you do not want any seeds left in your drink.
