Struggling to fall asleep can be very stressful. You feel exhausted, depleted of energy, and desperate to sleep. Yet, for some illogical reason you cannot actually fall asleep. You literally feel powerless, dreading the next day’s arrival because you will still have to get up and complete your usual daily routines, except this time, you’ve barely had any sleep.
If these issues sound familiar, try following our simple steps below. Start them today, and rid yourself of sleepless nights, forever.
How Can I Relax My Mind To Sleep?
Sleep is a super important process that allows your body to rest and repair itself. A good night’s sleep will help you wake up feeling refreshed, energised and ready to take on the world. On the flip side, a bad night’s sleep will leave you feeling sluggish, demotivated, and energyless during the next day.
Scientists recommend that we get between 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Not getting enough sleep can be very damaging for our health. This is because sleep helps to keep our bodies healthy.
A few benefits of a good night’s sleep include:
- Weight loss
- Reduced stress levels
- Feel refreshed and positive.
- Improved memory
- Your body repairs itself, whilst you sleep.
How Do I Stop My Mind Racing At Night?
If you want to stop your mind racing at night, follow our simple tips for a good night’s sleep:
1. Bedtime Routine
Make sure you have a bedtime routine. If you don’t already have one, start one!
Following a bedtime routine each night will help your mind switch off its racing thoughts, because routine methodical tasks distract the mind, and can be extremely calming.
The longer you practise a bedtime routine, the more likely it will be for your mind and body to automatically switch off, when the bedtime routine starts.
2. Sleep Time – Healthy Living Habit
Choose a regular sleep time, and stick to it.
Maintaining a consistent bedtime is crucial if you want to clear your mind. A consistent sleep time will help your internal body clock (otherwise known as the circadian rhythm) regulate your sleep-wake cycle correctly. Your body will get used to requests to ‘switch off’ and rest at certain times.
If you chop and change the time you go to bed, your internal body clock will be disrupted, and your sleep patterns will no longer be balanced. In this scenario, you will struggle to clear your mind as your bedtime pattern keeps changing.

3. Morning Light
Have you ever noticed that when you spend all day in the natural light, and fresh air, that you often sleep better? This isn’t a coincidence.
Natural daylight helps to reset your internal body clock, making sure it’s sleep-wake timings are accurate. Aim to get two hours of natural daylight in the morning, each day. This is scientifically proven to aid a better nights sleep.
If you are struggling to wake up in the mornings, consider purchasing a sunrise simulating alarm clock. This clever alarm mimics the natural sun-rising process, gradually waking your body up at the correct time. These clocks gently wake the user, rather than suddenly shocking them awake via an alarm.
Once the hectic workings of the day have ended, take a moment for yourself to relax and unwind from the days events. Switching your mind onto more relaxing thoughts and feelings, will distract the mind from unwanted thoughts and worries.

6. Write It Down
No matter what you do, sometimes stubborn thoughts will just keep circling around in your head, over and over.
The best solution to clear your mind in this scenario, is to write your thoughts and feelings down on paper. Writing any issue down on paper can help release you from it’s power. So, grab your journal now and start jotting!
Writing problems down on paper is effective, because when written down, some problems don’t seem as big as they previously did in your head. Concerns that once felt immeasurably big, can be reduced and considered for what they really are.
An added advantage of writing your troublesome thoughts down, is also that you are forced to detail the issue clearly, and concisely. Building a clear understanding of the issue can often help you see a solution not previously considered. Voila!
